Good Shepherd Sunday offers bishops and priests an opportunity to reflect on our ministries. This Sunday also offers every Christian an opportunity to look at how closely they are following the Shepherd. Christ is the Good Shepherd. We have all been called to exercise His priesthood in the communities we have been sent to serve.
We are called to be no less than martyrs, or witnesses, for our Lord. "If you put up with suffering for doing what is right, this is acceptable in God's eyes. It was for this you were called, since Christ suffered for you in just this way and left you an example, to have you follow in his footsteps. He did no wrong; no deceit was found in his mouth." (1 Pt. 2: 20-23) Jesus is quite the act to follow. I guess if we keep following, we will get better at it.
