This weekend we get to hear the Sermon on the Mount. When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on the mountainside. This is very fitting for us, because we gather around Christ on the side of a hill as well. Speaking of hills, when there is ice and snow on the ground, the drive to church can be risky. Therefore, I want to make sure that everyone knows that if you are unable to make it to Mass due to weather, you are not committing a mortal sin. God understands, and you will be remembered by those of us who are able to make it.
Last Sunday afternoon, the amount of snow was a surprise. I loved how John and Nancy cross-country skied to get to Mass. That was a first for me. And Cy, you are a rough and tough football player and track star. You could have hiked to Mass. My parents walked to school in two feet of snow uphill both ways when they were kids. :) Seriously though, remember that you are relieved of the obligation to attend Mass if travel is treacherous.
