What are we called to do with our faith? The scriptures have us looking at God's call this week. We have the call of Isaiah the prophet and the people of Israel. Saint Paul is "called to be an apostle," begins a letter that calls a church to holy living. And in our gospel John the Baptist lives out his call to be the one who prepares the way for Jesus by testifying to him as Son of God.

These calls all lead us out to other people. The examples given are all models of people like us responding fully to God's plan of salvation. I guess the question we can meditate upon this week is, What is my role in this plan? How can I help the mission of the Church? Is there a ministry here at Our Lady of the Mountain that I would like to pursue? Do I have a vocation to the larger Church, to be married, to be a single celibate, to the religious life, to the priesthood, to be a missionary?

One day I was approached by a lady who began expressing, rather excitedly, that we need more priests and laborers in the Church. She stated that I needed to start doing something about it. So I answered her, “I said yes to God’s call. I’m on my way to being a priest. I think I am doing something about it." She responded, “Good point. Sorry.” :)
